The App: New Tablet Client is a Web Client

The new Microsoft Dynamics NAV App will be available for Windows, iOS and Android. The user interface looks the same on all devices. The app is an HTML based website integrated in an app and is called “Tablet Client”. This App is comparable with a browser connect to Dynamics NAV via internet – like the Web Client known from Dynamics NAV 2013.

First impression: An important step for NAV

The app makes a solid impression with the clear Microsoft tile design. The design of the user interface looks great. Even reduced function for mobile devices has been considered. This is an important step of Dynamics NAV for Microsoft to follow their guideline, “Cloud First, Mobile First”.

The app is available for tablet PCs with at least 7″ in size, Smart phones are not supported. The app cannot take pictures or use other hardware features like GPS.

Only usable with online connection

Through this technical implementation there is no local database for offline modus possible. All displayed data and processes are only available in online mode with stable internet connection.

Areas of application of Dynamics NAV 2015 App

Hereby the areas of application are clearly defined as we know it from the Dynamics NAV Web Client. Microsoft addresses users who work from time to time with Dynamics NAV in addition to the Windows Client in the office. They should also have access to Dynamics NAV with their tablet PCs. This is an interesting alternative to the Dynamics NAV Web Client on the laptop. Smart phones are not supported.

Because of the need for a guaranteed and reliable online connection, offline work with this app is not possible. Without this, you cannot work with Dynamics NAV e.g. in airplanes, rural areas with insufficient online connection. A sales person or service technician must rely on his next appointment for a good internet connection.
